Build log from master builder paul risdale

A Traplet wee nip conversion
by Tom thornton of BC Vancouver Island CA.

I recently completed my first RC build - a Wee Nip to the original Traplet plans using .04 “ thick Arborite or formica in UK. I found it very rewarding and it sailed fairly well . I also found that the foremost and rear most pairs of mast positions absolutely useless and have blanked them off. It being sufficient to cant the mast by placing it one hole forward or backward. However I was impressed by your development version and modified the original hull to accommodate your clubs Bermuda rig now it is an awesome sailor.
I have 2nd hull under construction incorporating your club changes except the material . Sheet styrene is ideal being softer tham formica and easy to work. This will also be rigged Bermuda but I have a swing rig built from RG65 info and out of Germany a Mc Rig too.
I plan a 3rd hull built to the Bayside design from .4mm 3 plywood.
Lastly when done with Nip building I have a Bantock Box kite IOM to build also hard chine so following on from the Wee Nip Experience it should be plain sailing.
Editors note: A conversion such as this would not currently be eligible for the Abington Park Wee Nip competitions as it falls too far outside the one design parameters our class strives to maintain however Tom is obviously enthusiastic with a number of the innovative solutions to the problems of doing this kind of conversion that we thought it worthwhile sharing the manner in which he approached it.
