wee Nip Medal Competition - Round 1

25th January 2014

The first Wee Nip Medal Competition of 2014 started out with ten skippers ready for the action, two new boats were on the water in competition for the first time Glengoune skippered by Alan Smedley of Emberton Park Sailing Club and Abington Park's Geoff Raygada with Stags Breath. The westerly wind made setting the course somewhat tricky it being quite difficult to give a first leg which split  the fleet up enough, consequently the first mark always seemed quite crowded, generally the skippers coped admirably with this, however it really didn't pay to be on the outside of ten boats all rounding the mark at once!
Picture
Early on the winds were light and gradually strengthened throughout the day so that racing was completed by 2 o'clock.
It was very much business as usual with Keith Coxon winning, although he was put under some intense pressure from both Paul Risdale & Peter Shepherd, the victories in the final three races finally putting the young pretenders in their place.
The midfield were headed up by Mike Ewart a little way in front of three skippers Alan Smedley, Peter Jackson & Norman Hardy between whom there was nothing to choose from.
The battle not to come last was just as keenly fought with three skippers all trying hard not to have the dubious honor, in the end Geoff Raygada just lost out to Brian Hawkins on countback with Richard Smith improving to make sure he finished a little way ahead.

The next race in this series will be held at Furzton Lakes, Two Islands on Saturday February 15th
